Dyche dismisses Villa link

Clarets boss Sean Dyche had no contact with Aston Villa over their managerial vacancy, before Steve Bruce took the helm.

Bruce was always favourite to replace Roberto Di Matteo, but though Villa have previously been keen on Dyche, and his odds tumbled earlier in the week from 25/1 to 3/1 with some bookmakers, there was never any chance of him leaving Turf Moor for Villa Park and dropping down into the Championship.

Dyche said: “It's just after two promotions in three years out of the Championship, I think it’s a commonsensical link more than anything.

"I think they've appointed a very good man.

"I get on well with Brucey and like him a lot as a person as well as his record as a manager.

"I wish him well."

Asked if there was any contact, he said simply: “No."
