Burnley were the only side in England without a win this season, and at the break, despite dominating the first half, Dyche’s side went in goalless against Hull.

Ashley Barnes headed a second half winner against the Tigers, to seal Burnley’s 10th win in 11 games against Hull, and Dyche said: “I think it was deserved, first half we were excellent, some of our play was very good.

“We opened enough chances to be certainly one, if not two goals to the good, and the defending shape was good - as it has been a few times this season.

“At half-time you’re thinking, is it one of those games again? And I mentioned that to the lads - I weirdly gave them a bit at half-time, I said ‘this is not a situation where it’s good old Burnley again. Doing alright and well isn’t good enough, we need to do even better.’

“So I was pleased with how they came out in the second half, got the goal and it was a bit nervy after that, which you expect, it’s human nature, but a marker is laid down.

“You get your first win and everybody feels happy about themselves.”

Dyche knows the challenge is now to turn that win into more: “You lot have got to change your story now, it’s your story about how many games it takes (to win), and I understand that, but it’s not about one win, it’s great, and I’ll enjoy it, but there’s more than one needed, although it’s important to get that first one to give everyone belief to make what everyone tells me is impossible, possible.”
