Dave Jones fully aware of huge rivalry

And he hopes to bring Burnley that bit of luck they have been missing in the derby on Sunday.

Jones was on loan at Rovers from Wigan, and lined up against Burnley as Jason Shackell gave Sean Dyche’s side the lead at Ewood Park.

However, in the fifth minute of injury time, David Dunn - yards off-side - forced the ball past Lee Grant as Clarets fans dreamed of finally beating Rovers for the first time in 11 games.

Burnley have drawn the last three meetings now, and Jones said: “The last few games, Burnley have been unlucky against Blackburn, especially last season, when there was a controversial - very controversial - decision.

“For all the people to score - Mr Blackburn.

“But it was definitely a fortunate decision.

“I’m happy to be on this side and looking forward to getting a good result and ending that run.”

Having had a foot in both camps, Jones is fully aware of what the rivalry means, and he added: “From my time there I know it’s a big game, when I joined on loan there was a big emphasis, people around the club.

“It’s the same here, when you go for a coffee, people are talking about the season, and, more often than not, Blackburn comes up in terms of how big a game it is, and how it’s going to make their year almost if we get a result.

“We’re definitely aware of how big it is for the Burnley fans and people.

“The gist I got from Blackburn fans and people around the club was about not losing to Burnley, and I think that’s reflected in Burnley’s performances over the last few games against Blackburn, where they’ve done really well and probably deserved more.

“We’ll be looking to replicate that, but hopefully get the result.

“You have to play the game, not the occasion, and approach it like any other game, if we do that, I’m sure it will take us far.

“We know it will be a special atmosphere, there’s a certain edge to those gamnes, and we need to relish it.

“I’m sure the Burnley fans will and push us all the way.”
