Burnley offered me a contract near the start of last season, which, for me personally, it was nowhere near what I was going to sign and I think the club understood,” the 27-year-old told Telegraph Sport.

@mattremedy: “With fans constantly asking for transparency, I think it’s ok to have this in the open. Credit to Tarks, if I was him, I’d probably want a new experience too; especially with the club essentially in a period of what appears to be ‘prolonged transition.’”

@rushy_sport: “Makes it even more baffling the lack of attempts to recruit defenders in the summer of the club have known Tarkowski's wishes to leave in the near future. The lack of forwards planning is shocking.”

@JulesG08: “Transfer window opens again soon. Listen to good offers and let him go. His agent has got him to put it out there for that reason. Can’t begrudge him a move... some fans are too sensitive at times.”

@Dannyhaslam: “Just shows the position the clubs in at the minute. Worrying times for us and I'm afraid this is the year where we don't have enough to survive. Sad.”

@vivavenkys: “Can understand his frustration. Playing at a bigger club might help his England chances.”

@Pipmac80: “Fair play to the lad. reading between the lines he sees the lack of ambition by the board and wants to further his own career elsewhere good luck to him.”

@philrob62: “For too long, far too many things being unsaid at the club. Don’t blame him at all, I wouldn't be surprised if Gibson was on a better deal… corner shop mentality still at play… in all aspects.”
