Clarets striker Vokes: fitness latest

Striker Sam Vokes will return to the squad for the trip to Newcastle.

The Wales international returned as a late substitute against Liverpool on Boxing Day, but two days later was rested at Manchester City.

Boss Sean Dyche also updated the fitness of the rest of his squad: “Duffo (Michael Duff) is making up more ground, he’s on the grass, not with us but back running.

Matty Taylor is showing signs, he’s nowhere near yet but back moving again on the grass.

“Vokesy has had a bit of a cold - I only took him out because of the adrenaline hit of Boxing Day, when you’ve been out for eight months you don’t get that, so it’s a big thing on the body.

“That was my decision, it was too quick at City.

“Gilksy (Matt Gilks) also has that cold/fluey thing.

“Wardy (Stephen Ward) is going well but he will be weeks. Everything is fine and he’s back walking around. The good thing about having the pins inserted in his ankle is it makes it stronger, so you can get mobile quicker.”
