Clarets make no progress on double deal

Burnley are looking at different centre back options, with West Brom currently pricing them out of a move for Craig Dawson.

But a deal for Baggies striker Jay Rodriguez remains a possibility.

The Clarets had a combined £25m offer for the pair turned down last month.

Relegated Albion, however, are holding out for in the region of £40m for the duo.

They are thought to have valued Dawson, 28, at £20m, with former Clarets striker Rodriguez in the region of £18-20m.

And while that pricetag would be prohibitive for Rodriguez, the club haven’t given up hope of negotiating a return to Turf Moor.

Dawson’s valuation, however, has forced them to turn their attentions elsewhere.

The former Rochdale man is believed to prefer a return to the north west, and has put in a transfer request, having already been fined for refusing to go on the club’s pre-season training camp to Portugal.

Albion have also rejected a £12m bid from West Ham for the former England Under 21 international.

Dawson, similarly, submitted a transfer request in 2014, as Burnley had three offers for the player turned down, before he subsequently signed a new contract.

Dawson was not involved as West Brom won 3-0 at Barnet in a pre-season friendly on Saturday, with Rodriguez getting a start.

The saga could yet rumble on, with West Brom waiting on the futures of a number of players with release clauses.

Jonny Evans has already left for Leicester City, and Gareth McAuley has been released, leaving Dawson and Egypt’s Ahmed Hegazi as their only senior centre backs – and Hegazi has a £10m release clause. And, similarly, Salomon Rondon has a £16m release clause, with Rodriguez and Hal Robson-Kanu Darren Moore’s only other senior striking options.

Burnley, as they weigh up potential back up plans, were linked in Germany with Switzerland international forward Josip Drmić.

The 25-year-old Borussia Mönchengladbach striker is in the final year of his contract and reportedly available for €5m.
