Clarets live and die by the shirt says goalkeeper Robbo

Goalkeeper Paul Robinson declared that the Clarets will always stick together through thick and thin on the pitch, adding that the entire squad '˜live and die' by the shirt.

While the performance against Swansea City didn’t measure up to those where they pushed Spurs, Manchester City and Arsenal close away from home, and the one that brought a point at the KCOM Stadium, the former England international insisted that it wasn’t through a lack of trying.

Sean Dyche’s side were, by their own admission, second best throughout the majority of the 90-plus minutes played at the Liberty Stadium but the 37-year-old felt that his team-mates portrayed all the necessary characteristics to remain competitive.

“That goes without saying for our team, that’s what we do, there’s a lot of heart, there’s a lot of desire and there’s a lot of will to win even when things aren’t going our way,” he said.

“We still do everything we can to get something out of the game, no matter how we play or how the game goes we try and get something out of the game in some way.

“You can see the lads live and die for the shirt out there. It wasn’t our day today but we still nearly got something out of the game.”

Andre Gray’s double, a goal in either half, had cancelled out Fernando Llorente’s opener but the Spaniard had the last laugh in stoppage time after Martin Olsson had earlier drawn the Swans level.

“It’s always difficult to lose in injury time but I think we lacked in our performance today,” Robinson said. “The stats tell a story and we weren’t quite at it today.

“Being brutally honest I think it was a fair result and I don’t think we deserved to get anything out of the game, but it looked like we were going to do.

“Our away form has not been acceptable and today we weren’t at the level we wanted to be at.”

“They played very well, they’re a team playing with a lot of confidence and we knew it was going to be a difficult game, they’re a difficult team to play against it, but we didn’t do enough to get a result.”

But while Robinson, who deputised for absent skipper Tom Heaton, accepts that the Clarets fell short in South Wales, he thought they were hard done to by a poor refereeing decision from Anthony Taylor.

He said: “Their winning goal at the end was a blatant foul on Ben (Mee), there are two hands and a knee in his back.

“If the referee hadn’t given us a penalty that shouldn’t have been a penalty then he probably blows for a foul there.

“However, it was a fair result and there’s things for us to think on and work on.”
