Clarets get international call

FREE-SCORING Clarets striker Chris Iwelumo has been recalled to the Scotland squad for their upcoming Euro 2012 qualifying double-header.

Iwelumo missed Scotland’s last-gasp win over Liechenstein at the start of September with a hamstring strain.

But after scoring seven goals in ten games for Burnley so far this season, the 32-year-old is included in a 24-man squad named by national boss Craig Levein.

Group I leaders Scotland face the Czech Republic in Prague on Friday, October 8th before taking on European and World champions Spain at Hampden Park on Tuesday, October 12th as they look to sustain their challenge for a place at the 2012 European Championship finals.

Iwelumo said: “I’ve been playing so I’m looking forward to going and doing what I do. I’ll play on one leg if I have to, that’s what I get paid to do. To go out and represent your country, it’s one of the biggest honours you can have. I’ll be delighted to go and do what I do.”

Meanwhile, Burnley defenders Andre Bikey and David Edgar have also received international call ups for games next month.

Bikey is in the Cameroon squad for their home African Cup of nations qualifier against DR Congo on Saturday, October 9th while Edgar has been included in the Canadian national squad to face the Ukraine in a friendly in Kiev on Friday, October 8th.
