Clarets boss: ‘Ings call-up well-deserved’

Clarets boss Sean Dyche feels striker Danny Ings’ latest England call-up is well deserved.

Ings, with 24 club goals to his name this season, has been named in Gareth Southgate’s Under 21 squad to face Wales at Derby on Wednesday night.

He netted twice in his second appearance for the Young Lions last time out against San Marino, and Dyche said: “Should he be involved? Absolutely. Does he deserve it? Absolutely. Do I hope he continues his rich vein of form? Absolutely.

“His performances have made it quite clear what a good player he is, and he is a very good player.

“I think his development is ongoing and I think he’s shown great signs of what a player he is now but what a player he can become, because I think there’s more to come.

“He’s still learning but he’s very receptive to the information that me and the staff give to him.”

Ings and strike partner Sam Vokes have 42 goals between them so far this season, but the 21-year-old is often his own harshest critic, as Dyche added: “He’s very conscientious - almost too conscientious at times.

“He’s still got a real demand on himself but he’s learnt to smile a bit more, which I like, and soften the demand and demand at the right times.”
