Clarets boss applauds Fabregas ‘magic moment’

And he smiled: “It’s the best pass I’ve seen since myself dribbling it out at Chesterfield, smashing it 75 yards for Andy Morris to head down, even with a bit of chop spin and side swipe!

“But forgetting about winning and losing, there is a reality - they are magic moments.

“I’m in football and they are magic moments of technical ability. You hope they’re for your side, if not, people witnessed an absolutely fantastic piece of play and you have to hold your hands up.

“We still picked the bones out of it, could we do this or that, but it was an absolutely fantastic moment.”

Asked whether Burnley’s welcome to the Premier League came as a surprise, he added, noting Chelsea’s clinical first half period when they came from 1-0 down to lead 3-1: “It would be a surprise for it to be like that 20 minutes every week!

“They were excellent and we had to find a way of breaking their press, play slightly longer than we wanted.

“Jose (Mourinho) mentioned that afterwards. I don’t think he was being disrespectful, we did tell the players to go slightly longer because their midfield was so dominant.

“If you try and play through there...they were pressing which hasn’t always been a trait.

“They were out of their blocks quick, so we had to change our style to try and affect the game.

“We got off to a good start, but for 20 minutes, people tell me it looked unplayable.

“The rest of the game, I thought we played quite well. We have to be aware of what we’re trying to do, and achieve, the shape, the tactics, the energy - I was quite pleased.

“Someone actually asked me has that harmed our chances of staying up! First game against Chelsea at home...it just made me laugh!”
