Charlie Austin awarded Peterborough hat-trick

IT’S official, Charlie Austin was the Clarets’ hat-trick hero against Peterborough.

The first of Austin’s treble was credited as an own-goal to Michael Bostock by the stats man covering the game at Turf Moor for national reporting agency the Press Association.

That was reflected in the national media and all statistics supplied by PA following the game last Saturday.

But with Posh defender Bostock only helping the ball over the line, Austin claimed the goal before going on to get two more in the second half as Burnley ran out 5-2 winners.

His case was backed by referee Mike Dean and after the Clarets asked for the decision to be reviewed, PA have confirmed that the goal will now be recorded as Austin’s and the relevant statistics amended accordingly.

That takes the striker’s tally for the season to seven in seven games and 53 in just 107 League appearances.

“I always thought it was my goal and I’m delighted the records will now show it. I want every goal I can get!” said Austin, who is hoping to shake off a knock to the hip to return to the Clarets’ starting line-up at Derby on Saturday.
