Burnley’s groundsman nominated for top award

BURNLEY Football Club is delighted to announce that the playing surface at Turf Moor has again been ranked in the top three in the Championship, with Paul Bradshaw in the running for the title of Groundsman of the Year.

A combination of reports from referees and away managers have placed the Turf Moor pitch amongst the best three in the division.

An inspection from a pitch specialist later this month will then determine the winner of the Championship category in the awards, with Bradshaw and his team hoping to go one better than last season when they were pipped to the title by Nottingham Forest.

Burnley FC Stadium Manager Doug Metcalfe said: “Well done to Paul and his team. To be nominated for the second year running is a great achievement, especially when we are competing against a lot of clubs with bigger budgets.

“The pitch is also used by the Reserve team and occasionally for training but has been in superb condition all season, which I know is appreciated by manager Eddie Howe and the players.”

The pitch at Turf Moor was totally reconstructed in the summer of 2010, with £750,000 invested in a new Desso GrassMaster surface which combines natural grass reinforced with synthetic grass fibres.
