Burnley won’t wilt - Ben Mee

Burnley face Spurs knowing a win would lift them out of the bottom three - with Sunderland hosting Newcastle later in the afternoon.

And Mee looked back on how the players coped with the pressure last season on their way to promotion, losing just two of their last 24 league games.

The former Manchester City youth team skipper said: “We won’t get overwhelmed, we kept our heads really well last year, took it game by game and this is similar this year.

“Obviously the games are a lot tougher, and there’s a lot riding on them, but the same applies from last year.

“But we feel we have adapted to this level, everyone has grown into the season and we want to show that towards the end of the season.”

Burnley lost last time out at Southampton, but the win over Manchester City in the previous game changed perceptions that the Clarets could pull off the impossible, and Mee added: “We’re positive still, we look forward to Spurs and Arsenal.

“We’re still very confident.

“We’re coming out of a tricky run but they are all tough games, the ones coming up against the teams in and around us are going to be good battled.

“We’re playing against the top sides in the country though, and it’s good.

“We’ve shown we can be as good, be confident against them and have no fear.

“We won’t go away, as we’ve shown all season, we want to annoy people and stick around, and get results.

“Everyone apart from us wrote us off, but we know what we’re about, we compete every game.

“We played Spurs at our place and gave as good as we got again, and we’ll look forward to it.”
