Burnley to wear special shirt to commemorate FA Cup centenary

Burnley Football Club is very proud to be celebrating the centenary of the club’s historic FA Cup triumph of 1914.

The Clarets overcame Liverpool 1-0 at the Crystal Palace Grounds on the very first occasion that the reigning monarch, King George IV, attended professional football’s most prestigious fixture.

At the final home game of the current season, against Ipswich Town on Saturday, April 26 - almost 100 years to the day of the 1914 final - Burnley plan to honour that fabulous occasion.

For the 100th anniversary fixture, the team will wear a special 1914 FA Cup final replica shir, bearing a Royal Coat of Arms badge, as worn in 1914.

The club is privileged to have obtained special permission from Buckingham Palace for the shirts to carry this crest.

Also as part of the centenary celebrations, the club is finalising a special 1914 FA Cup exhibition, featuring a wide range of artefacts connected with that historic occasion.

The 1914 exhibition, to be staged in the Long Gallery at Burnley’s Towneley Hall, will officially open on Sunday, April 6th, and run for four weeks.
