Burnley to Celebrate Diversity at Lancashire derby

BURNLEY FC are delighted to show our full support for football’s ‘Kick It Out’ Week of Action by hosting a ‘Celebrating Diversity’ day this Saturday, October 20.

Turf Moor is proud to host a series of events celebrating the diversity of the Burnley FC fan base and the local Burnley & Pendle area.

Local Primary schools will take part in a special pre-match procession at 4.50pm, based on eight countries that best represent the local community.

St Leonard’s Church of England Primary School, Wellfield Methodist & Anglican Primary School, Barrowford Primary School, Laneshaw Bridge Primary School, Lomeshaye Junior School, Padiham Green Church of England Primary School and St John the Baptist Roman Catholic Primary School have each been designated a country to represent, based on the various communities in the surrounding districts.

The countries include Germany, Bangladesh, Uganda, France, Poland, Norway, Pakistan and China and each will also be represented in a day-long ‘World Cup’ with the final taking place at half time for the inaugural ‘Celebrating Diversity’ Trophy.

Elsewhere at Turf Moor, there will also be a food village open from 2pm provided by Usha Restaurant, Hollands’s Pies, and Santa’s Pizza, based across from the new Elite Training Centre, where fans may go and try the meals on offer from a number of the different countries.

This campaign could not be held without the help of a number of organisations including, Alert Fire & Security, Veka, Holiday Inn Express, Unite, Weir Minerals, Clearly Interiors, TRW Automotive, Lancashire FA and Burnley Council, and we thank them all for their support.

We would also like to thank FEW (Furniture for Education Worldwide), a charity who aim to provide education facilities for children in developing countries.

Burnley FC have agreed to allow FEW to hold a bucket collection, so please give generously.

We would also like to thank the schools for their involvement of the project and hope they have a great day.
