The winger suffered the setback during the back end of the recent defeat to Newcastle United, where Tresor had been brought on as a late substitute.

Within minutes of coming off the bench, the 26-year-old picked up a knock as he tracked back.

Initially it wasn’t thought to be a serious problem, but his return isn’t anticipated in the immediate future.

“I don't really want to put a time scale [on things], but it'll be a number of weeks,” manager Scott Parker said, speaking ahead of this weekend’s trip to Liverpool.

“It's not something that needs surgery and we've gone another route here because there's an ankle issue, but the ankle's stable, so it's not something that needs surgery.

“He's gone through a procedure now where he's had a couple of injections and we're hoping [it won’t be too long], but it'll still be a number of weeks.”

While the timing of any injury is never ideal, it’s especially frustrating for Tresor given he was finally back in the fold at Burnley.

After a turbulent couple of years where he barely featured, the Belgian made four appearances in the space of two weeks around the Christmas period.

“Yeah, so frustrating,” Parker added. “Really frustrating.

“It's been a long, long road for Mikey for many, many reasons. Partly, you know, Mikey can be accountable for.

“I've said it to you numerous times, since coming in here, after a sticky bit at the start of the season, he’s come in and has been really incredible in terms of everything he's done.

“We've seen his quality. He’s got himself into an unbelievable position where he's on the bench and he's now coming into games. He's edging closer to maybe starting games.

“But he's been hit with this injury, which is not ideal, of course not. But it's football sometimes and it's professional sport.

“But yeah, it'll be alright. We'll get him back through this.”

On a more positive note, Joe Worrall could be back involved this weekend as Burnley travel to Anfield.

The centre-back hasn’t been available since his start at Bournemouth, but Zian Flemming won’t be back until the Tottenham game at the earliest.

Parker said: “Joe's close. He's been on the grass now so we'll make a call on him leading after tomorrow's session, but he's close.

“Zian not so, Zian won't make the weekend. Zian will probably be back next game [Tottenham at home].

“Everyone else is fit and well coming out the back of the big block games we've had, so we're fully fit everywhere else.”

Lyle Foster, meanwhile, is back in training after missing last weekend’s FA Cup tie against Millwall through illness.

“He’s still not probably at 100 per cent in terms of his general well-being, but he's been back training with us,” Parker explained.

“So again, we'll see how that progresses probably tomorrow and we'll make a call on that.”

Elsewhere, Jordan Beyer, Connor Roberts, Josh Cullen and Zeki Amdouni are all longer-term concerns.
