Burnley striker Vokes agrees new contract

Vokes, 24, has hit 11 goals so far this season, in a strike partnership with Danny Ings worth 31 goals.

He was on target in the 4-3 FA Cup defeat at Southampton on Saturday, and yesterday put pen to paper on a new deal.

The Wales international was signed by Eddie Howe from Wolves for £350,000 in the summer of 2012, on a three-year contract, following a successful loan spell the previous season.

Meanwhile, boss Sean Dyche remains hopeful of adding fresh faces to his squad in January - and reiterates there is no need to sell Ings.

Dyche’s squad was stretched for Saturday’s FA Cup third round defeat at Premier League Southampton, with Michael Duff, Ben Mee and Michael Kightly all staying up north with various injury concerns, and Luke O’Neill was recalled a day early from his loan spell at League 2 York City to take a place on the bench.

Development squad pair Steve Hewitt and Cameron Dummigan were also on the bench, and Dyche, linked with fresh interest in Brighton striker Ashley Barnes, after a fourth offer of £750,000 was knocked back by the Seagulls last week, admitted: “We’re hoping to get bodies in, we need that, we were stretched, but we work with and believe in what we’ve got.

“There’ll be no excuses from me, it’s the reality of the club, we’ll try, if we can, to bring people in who we think can affect and help the team build for the future.

“There are a number of irons in fires. There’s an order of business because we haven’t just got the finance to throw it at six or seven so we’ll see how it develops.”

Ings took his club tally to 20 goals for the season at Southampton, prompting more questions about his future, but Dyche, as he has explained numerous times, said again: “The club are secure, we’ve made it quite clear, there’s no need for that to happen, but we once saw Ronaldo sold for £90m, or whatever it was, so everyone has a price, but there’s no thirst for us for Danny to leave the group, or anyone else.”
