Burnley striker Paterson earns international call

Burnley striker Martin Paterson has received an international call up for next month’s qualifier against the Faroe Islands.

Paterson, who last earned a call-up in September 2010, is included in Nigel Worthington’s 23-man squad for the game in Belfast on Wednesday, August 10.

Northern Ireland head into the match second bottom of Group C - two points above the Faroes - having picked up six points from their first five games.

They lie five points behind second-placed Slovenia but have games in hand on all their rivals.
