Burnley striker Austin happy to stay at Turf Moor

Player of the year Charlie Austin is happy to stay at Burnley for the remaining year of his contract - but admits he would jump at the chance to play in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old walked away with the official player of the year, players’ player of the year, top scorer and goal of the season awards on Sunday night at Turf Moor.

Austin hailed the night as his “best moment” in football.

But with only a year left on his contract, the 28-goal hitman is expected to attract considerable interest over the summer.

And the former Swindon Town hotshot admitted: “I think every boy growing up wants to be a professional footballer.

“When that chance comes, every footballer wants to play in the Premier League.

“Every footballer wants that chance.

“If I get the chance, so be it.

“If it comes this summer I’ll take it, and I’ll Burnley Football Club with my head held high.

“But (if not), on June 25th I’ll be back here for the first day of pre season!”

He won’t go anywhere to sit on the bench, however: “I was a builder, I know what goes on. As a kid I wanted to be a footballer. I don’t want to do anything else but play football. I can’t sit on a bench somewhere or sit in the stands and watch someone else play.”
