Burnley midfielder Ashley Westwood not resting on his laurels after big win at Everton

The Clarets hit 33 points after the 2-1 victory at Everton last Saturday evening, and Fulham - in 18th - have since lost twice at home, leaving the Cottagers with a three-result swing to make up in their final eight games, with Burnley also boasting a game in hand.

Midfielder Ashley Westwood admits the job is not yet done, to secure a sixth-successive Premier League season, and the squad are looking to hit or break the 40-point barrier for the fifth-straight campaign.

Burnley are next in action at Southampton on Easter Sunday after the international break, and the former Aston Villa man said: "I think we looked at the Everton game - Fulham kept on picking up points, and it was getting really close.

"You start getting nervous.

"But to go there and put on a performance like that, it gives you a bit of relief - seven points is a big gap with nine to go.

"We want to push on, we have some massive fixtures coming and we want to break that 40 barrier.

"We'll keep pushing as a squad.

"We've only been beaten by the top six in the last load of games, which is good, and we're going into the last run of games with a lot of confidence.

"We want to break that 40-mark and we're on our way."

The win at Goodison Park was arguably a result of the best performance of the season to date, a standard to try and match in the remaining games.

It meant Burnley had won at Liverpool and Everton in the same season for the first time in their history, with Westwood and Josh Brownhill justly singled out for praise for their hard work in midfield.

Westwood said: "It's what we do week in, week out, whoever is in there works hard, the whole team works hard.

"It's what we do in training, and it's nice, come Saturday, the rewards pay you back.

"I thought we were excellent, Dwight (McNeil)'s goal topped it off, defensively we were brilliant and we could have scored more - we had a lot of chances, which is something we've been looking to do more of.

"The final third play was excellent.

"It was up there with the best (performances), Palace was another, but to go to Everton and get three points was massive for us.

"The boys say we keep breaking down barriers, it was an achievement to go to Liverpool and win, and then Everton...four points off Arsenal, which not many teams do, so we're going in the right direction, we just need to stay grounded and focused on the next game."

Westwood also has a couple of personal ambitions on his mind, having made his 250th Premier League appearance at Goodison.

He is eyeing 300 now, and hoping to remain an ever-present this season: "It's incredible, coming from Crewe, I never thought I would play in the Premier League, so to get 250 games is remarkable, and hopefully I've got a couple more years here to do that.

"I want to reach the 300, that was my biggest aim, I don't think too many are in that category - Bardo has done it, I want to chase him down!

"To get to 300 Premier League games is some career, I'd retire a very happy man.

"It would have to be another two years, but I'm playing a lot of games each year, which is not easy - I'm getting on!

"But I feel it's the best I've felt - I said that last year as well, and hopefully there are many more to come.

"Last year I missed out (on being ever-present) through suspension, so this year that is the main thing I wanted to keep on top of - I was running close for about four games, but you want to break records.

"Seeing a few of the boys do it, it is a special achievement, so nine to go, hopefully my body hangs on in there, I do the right things and it would be some achievement for me."
