Ref that controversially sent off Scott Parker to take charge of Burnley v Bristol City

Everything you need to know about the referee for tomorrow’s game

Burnley are back in action at Turf Moor tomorrow as they take on Michael Skubala’s Bristol City.

The Clarets continue their search for their first win of the season, having yet to pick up three points in the league.

Nicky Hayen’s side drew 1-1 with Middlesbrough in midweek, to leave them second from bottom in the Championship.

As for the Robins, they saw off Preston North End 3-1 on Tuesday night to move up to sixth place in the early table.

Who is the referee for Burnley v Bristol City?

Gavin Ward.

He’s overseen four games so far this season, dishing out 11 yellow cards and one red.

Going back to last term, Ward brandished 100 yellow cards in 30 games - at an average of 3.33 per game - while showing three reds.

The vast majority of his games came in the Championship, while he also took charge of the first leg of the play-off semi-final between Hull City and Millwall in May.

What history does he have with Burnley?

The last time Ward took charge of a Burnley game, they crashed out of the FA Cup at the hands of Mansfield Town.

He showed six yellow cards, four to Burnley players, as Scott Parker’s then Clarets side lost 2-1 in their fourth round tie.

Looking further back, Ward refereed Burnley four times during their 2024/25 promotion campaign, taking charge of the 0-0 draw against Preston North End, the 1-0 defeat to Millwall, the goalless stalemate against Stoke City, where Hannibal was sent off for a stamp, and the 1-1 draw against West Brom, where CJ Egan-Riley was dismissed.

Parker himself was also shown a red card at the final whistle as he queried the decision to show Egan-Riley his marching orders.

Who are the other officials?

Alex James and Dan Leach will run the line, while Richard Eley is fourth official.
