Nicky Hayen delivers clear Burnley transfer wish ahead of deadline

Nicky Hayen provides fresh transfer update ahead of Tuesday deadline

Nicky Hayen has delivered a clear message to Burnley’s hierarchy what is required during the final hours of the transfer window.

The Clarets have until 11pm on Tuesday night to finalise their summer business - and plenty of work remains on the agenda.

Following Burnley’s poor start to the season, which sees them sit inside the Championship’s bottom three on just one point, Hayen believes more “senior” players and men with the right mentality to help dig his side out of their current plight.

“We're busy with transfers behind the scenes,” he said after Saturday’s dismal 4-1 defeat at Norwich City.

“What we lack a little bit is a winning mentality, but also seniors who come in to guide these young players.

“You know I'm the last one to hide myself behind excuses, but we also play with players who didn't play for 18 months, for 15 months, came back from loan, who didn't play a lot.

“So we're really creating a team now and you see some good bits, but we have to be more consistent.”

When asked if Burnley have the right characters in the building, Hayen added: “Yeah, we have, but we have to show more consistency and it will help also when new players come in who have that mentality.

“So this is something that we want to increase, because for me it's not normal that an 18-year-old guy [Dastan Satpayev] today is one of your best or maybe the best player on the pitch.

“The way how he drove with the ball and how he played in an offensive part, but also defensively, because he was a guy who had to press forward…he did a lot of runs back to help the team and that's the mindset that we need.

“This is a standard and it's not normal that an 18-year-old is an example for that.”

Hayen also vowed to work tirelessly between now and the deadline to identify the right names.

“I will be at the club all day tomorrow [Sunday], so it's a day off and I will be there,” he added. “So talking with the management and pushing on deals to make it happen.”

The future of Zian Flemming is also likely to dominate the final hours of the window, with the Dutchman continuing to be linked with Lille and a host of Premier League sides.

When asked for the latest on his future, Hayen said: “The same as what you're thinking now. At the moment, there's no bid that suits the value of Zian.

“But also if there's tomorrow an offer that we cannot refuse, it's really difficult to keep him, but as long as that's not happening, he's here.

“To be fair, you saw the way Zian performed when the transfer will not be done. He will be here with his head for 100 per cent, and that's the character of Zian.”
