Nicky Hayen addresses Burnley's trend of inexplicable errors

Nicky Hayen addresses Burnley’s inexplicable mistakes

Nicky Hayen says his Burnley side must eradicate their individual mistakes as soon as possible.

The Clarets squandered the lead to lose 2-1 at home to Wolves on Friday night, to extend the club’s winless home league run to an entire calendar year.

Both of Wolves’ goals came from Burnley mistakes, with Kyle Walker and Igor Julio the guilty parties. Goalkeeper Gregoire Coudert, meanwhile, should have done much better with Wolves’ winning goal.

Defensive errors have been a recurring theme of Burnley’s season, which sees them sit inside the bottom three with just one win to their name.

“It's just an individual mistake,” Hayen said. “From 100 balls today, for example, we did 99 good and every mistake that we make is a goal, that's the reality.

“You don't have the luck also that he hits the bar and goes over and that we're not punished. But in a situation like this, you don't have the luck with you and I understand.

“It's something that has to go out because we can talk about the match plan. I think the organisation was good, the way how we played was really good. I think they really liked the way how we played in the first half, but you can't win games without these individual mistakes.

“The players apologised in the dressing room, it's something that they accept because they don't do it on purpose. But again, it doesn't help us win games, especially in a difficult situation like this.”
