Largie Ramazani issues surprisingly honest verdict on his own Burnley displays

Largie Ramazani issues blunt verdict on his own Burnley displays

Many Burnley fans will tell you Largie Ramazani has been a rare bright spark of a horrendous start to the season - but the winger doesn’t necessarily agree.

The 25-year-old has already scored twice since joining the Clarets on a season-long loan from Leeds United, with an obligation to buy.

But while the wide man has been a constant threat from the wide positions, Ramazani believes he’s still able to offer a lot, lot more.

It comes as Nicky Hayen’s side prepare to take on Lincoln City today, keen to get back to winning ways after last week’s failure to back up their first win of the season at Watford - taking just one point from their back-to-back home games against Charlton Athletic and Wolves.

Ramazani was on media duty ahead of this afternoon’s trip to Sincil Bank - here’s what he had to say:

Wolves

“We were doing very well, we felt confident. But it was just some silly mistakes that killed us a little bit, but mistakes happen.

“But in this league, you can't give away mistakes because you pay for it.

“We've had quite a few errors that have cost us quite badly. Hopefully, we'll just start not making mistakes, to be honest, and start playing the way we want to play, which we did in the first half.”

Back to back home games

“Against Watford, we played some great football, scored some nice goals.

“We were very confident coming into the next game against Charlton, which was also a little bit of a disappointment. I think the Wolves game, it was just a case of picking ourselves back up. But obviously, the mistakes brought us back down.

“I feel like that killed us. I think at 1-1, we were still in the game, just the second mistake killed us completely.

“You can't make mistakes in this league, you'll pay for it.”

Home record

“I wouldn't say there’s a pressure, but obviously everyone wants to win a home game. It's been such a long time, and hopefully it can come soon, like we've tried.

“But now we've just got to focus on Lincoln, get the three points there and then we'll just move on from there. Just game by game, game by game.”

Response from the players

“It's been very positive, as in the competitiveness has gone up a level. That's what I think personally.

“Obviously, I see people want to help the team and obviously start winning games.

“It's been very intense and fun to be fair, positive vibes. You want to stay positive and just keep going.

“Every single player is not happy in the position that we're in and we just want to get out of it as soon as possible.”

How have you found your time at Burnley so far?

“I'm enjoying it, I'll be honest.

“Obviously, I'm not enjoying the results. I'm not really enjoying my performances either, I'll be honest. I think I can help more and up my level, but I'm enjoying it.

“I've been told about Burnley before. I've obviously played against Burnley and Hannibal [who came through at Manchester United with him] gave me a little insight on it as well before I moved in.

“It was positive, so I already knew I was going to enjoy it.”

You’ve already scored twice, why aren’t you happy with your own performances?

“I can perform better. It's just me, I'm just holding myself [to a higher standard]. It's the me thing.

“I know I can do better, I can provide more. I can help the team. I can win games. I just haven't been able to do that yet, but that will come.”

Surely you accept you’ve shown glimpses though?

“Only a little bit, but that's not enough.

“I'm working for it every single day. Listen, I'll never be happy with my performances. I'll score a hat-trick and I'll still not be happy. It's just a me thing.

“But I just want to get better and help the team as much as possible.”

Have you always been your biggest critic?

“Yeah, 100%. It's just a me thing. I just demand so much from myself.

“I can do something nice, but it's not enough. I've got to do more.”

What’s been the message from the manager this week?

“The way we played first half [against Wolves], I'd say that’s what we want to play like. This is the Burnley you want to see.

“Be positive, keep the ball, attack, have them defending. I think that's what we want to do throughout the whole season.

“You can't just do it for 45 minutes. You've got to do it until the ref blows the whistle. We haven't been able to do that yet.”

Do you see your long-term future at Burnley?

“Possibly, yes, 100 per cent.”
