Burnley Women add Irish duo to their ranks ahead of inaugural WSL2 campaign

Burnley Women make 6th and 7th signings of the summer

Burnley Women continue to bolster their ranks ahead of their inaugural WSL2 campaign with a double swoop of Irish internationals.

Midfielder Tyler Toland arrives on a two-year contract, with the club holding a 12-month option, having left Durham at the end of last season.

Jamie Finn, also a midfielder, makes the move from Sunderland, penning a two-year deal with the Clarets.

Finn has been capped 22 times by the Republic of Ireland, while Toland - a former Blackburn Rovers player - has represented her country 27 times.

“I’m buzzing to be here and I can’t wait to get started,” Toland said of her move.

“Speaking to people around the building, the club has huge ambitions, as do I for the next couple of years. It’s a very exciting project to be a part of.

“I’ve played with a few of the girls before and I know of them. We’ve got a group of really good people, who want to work hard and push the club as far as it can go.

“I would say I like to work hard and I’m a team player. I like to play, but I’m not scared to do the dirty and hard work.”

Finn, meanwhile, is also keen to get on board at an exciting time for the women’s side following their Northern Premier Division title win last time out.

“I’m very excited to be here and I’m happy to sign for this club,” she said. “It’s a massive club with a lot of history.

“The conversations that I’ve had with the club and the management team have been very positive. Their ambitions are really good, and I want to be a part of that.

“I think it’s a professional environment that I can really progress in. You come in every day wanting to work hard, so to have the facilities that we do here will make that even easier.”

The duo join Christie Harrison-Murphy, Deanna Cooper, Kiera Sena, Maddi Wilde and Jackie Burns in signing for the club this summer.

Charlie Chadwick, Charley Docherty, Jade Richards, Thea Paul, Emma Siddall and Millie Chandarana have all signed new contracts, meanwhile.

It’s still to be confirmed who will take charge of the women’s side this season, after former Claret Ross Wallace took charge on an interim basis at the end of last term.

The former midfielder told the Burnley Express he would be interested in taking on the role on a permanent basis, but an announcement has yet to be made.
