Quilindschy Hartman discusses future beyond Espanyol loan spell
Quilindschy Hartman admits he’s currently unclear what lies in store for his future beyond his season on loan with Espanyol.
The 24-year-old has made just two starts for the La Liga side after making the switch from Burnley this summer.
While the loan includes an option to make the move permanent, there is no obligation, meaning the Dutchman could well end up back at Turf Moor where he’s still under contract until 2029.
That could potentially prove controversial given the manner of Hartman’s departure in July, where he made public comments appearing to denigrate the town of Burnley and revealing he was already planning his exit midway through his debut season with the club.
He was also roundly booed when he returned to Turf Moor for a pre-season friendly with his new club.
With Hartman not exactly getting the game time he would have liked with Espanyol either, it leaves his longer-term future very much up in the air.
“The truth is, I have no idea,” he told AS, when asked about his future beyond this season.
“In football, tomorrow is a long way off, so I think you have to focus on the present. We’ll see.
“I might stay or I might come back, it will depend on what Burnley does and what Espanyol does and it will also depend on whether Espanyol likes me.”
Hartman endured a nightmare debut season with the Clarets, as Scott Parker’s then side suffered relegation from the Premier League with just 22 points to their name.
The left-back was in and out of Burnley’s side and was dropped from the squad altogether off the back of some poor performances, culminating in public criticism from Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp.
It’s a far cry from when the Netherlands international was catching the attention of Arsenal and Chelsea while at Feyenoord, before a serious knee injury curtailed his form.
“Yes, that’s life,” he added. “But going to one place or another doesn’t necessarily mean I’ve had better luck.
“I think we all have a plan that’s already written. I never think about what could have been, because my life is already perfect.”
