Burnley man linked with Hull City following owner's cryptic transfer post

Burnley man emerges as transfer target for Premier League newcomers

Burnley’s Florentino Luis is a reported transfer target for Premier League newcomers Hull City.

The Hull Daily Mail claim the Tigers are taking an interest in the 26-year-old, who is now a permanent Burnley player having spent last season on loan at Turf Moor from Benfica.

The Clarets were obligated to make the midfielder's move permanent as part of the deal negotiated last summer for a reported £20.8m fee.

The Portuguese man made 33 appearances in all competitions and largely struggled to live up to his billing as a former Champions League player as Burnley were relegated from the Premier League.

The speculation comes in the wake of an unusual social media post from Hull owner Acun Ilicali, who hinted at the club’s transfer targets on his official X account in response to “false speculation”.

He went on to put numbers from four to 11 with the flags of countries and percentages next to them as he suggested how close Hull were to signing players of those nations.

A Portugal flag, a possible nod to Florentino, was posted alongside the number 80 per cent, suggesting a deal could well be close.

Maxime Esteve, Quilindschy Hartman, Lesley Ugochukwu, Jaidon Anthony and Loum Tchaouna have all departed Turf Moor this summer following last season’s relegation.

Martin Dubravka and Vaclav Hladky also departed at the end of their contracts, while Axel Tuanzebe and Ashley Barnes are now officially free agents. Hull were also previously linked with a free transfer for Tuanzebe.

Lluc Castell, a 19-year-old winger from Espanyol, is the only player to have signed for the club to date.

Florentino isn’t the only player to be linked with a move away in recent days, with 22-year-old winger Oluwaseun Adewumi reportedly close to sealing a loan move to German side Hertha Berlin.

On the possible incoming front, Burnley are taking an interest in former Middlesbrough striker Emmanuel Latte Lath according to Alan Nixon.

The 27-year-old, now with American side Atlanta United, is the subject of a loan-to-buy offer according to the report.
