'I believe': Alan Pace addresses Burnley's challenging start ahead of Middlesbrough clash

Alan Pace addresses Burnley’s slow start to the season

Alan Pace remains confident Burnley will go on to enjoy a strong season despite their challenging start.

Heading into tonight’s game against Middlesbrough, the Clarets are yet to taste victory in 90 minutes in either league or cup so far this term.

Nicky Hayen’s side, who were beaten 4-1 by Norwich City on Saturday, sit second bottom of the Championship three games in on just one point.

In the Carabao Cup, meanwhile, they were dumped out by League One Bradford City on penalties.

It continues the hangover from last season, with the Clarets yet to win since February. Their last home league win, meanwhile, came all the way back in October of last year.

But despite the challenges, Pace - writing in his programme notes ahead of this evening’s encounter - is adamant Burnley will turn it around.

“Tonight, we have the opportunity to come together and put in a positive performance in front of our home supporters,” he penned.

“I appreciate that there’s disappointment following some of the recent results, but I also believe that it’s important that we show togetherness and unity.

“We’ve seen a lot of change in recent months and it takes time to settle. We’ve been in this position before and gone on to have strong seasons. I believe we will do this again.”

While his notes were written before last night’s transfer deadline, Pace also discussed Burnley’s summer business.

It comes as the Clarets added Igor Julio, Reo Hatate and Largie Ramazani to their ranks on the final day of the window, while Joe Worrall and Zian Flemming both departed.

“While I write these programme notes, the transfer window is still open and we’re working hard behind the scenes to make sure our squad is in a strong position,” he added.

“As we work through another window, it remains challenging and it takes a lot of things to align to get a deal done.

“As with anything, though, we will give it our all.”
