Only 1-0 down at the break and with the advantage of the slope in the second period, the Clarets were optimistic about achieving something from the game. But in the 50th minute slack marking allowed Bolton to double their lead.

Pacy young striker Jade Brindle pulled one back when she latched on to a sublime pass from star performer Jo Rohman and arrowed the ball into the roof of the net.

Straight from the restart, Rohman’s long-range strike crashed against the woodwork.

But a deflected effort restored Bolton’s two-goal lead.

Brindle bagged her second with a delightful chip over the keeper following smart work from Hayley Newham.

As Burnley pressed for a leveller in the dying moments of the game, Bolton clinched

the points with a break-away goal.

On Sunday, the lady Clarets entertain relegation rivals Irlam at Barden Sports Club (Barden Lane, Burnley) kick-off 1 p.m.
