Burnley FC boss Laws looking forward to Turf Moor return

The Clarets saw a 2-0 lead evaporate at Bramall Lane, before Jay Rodriguez’s 90th-minute strike looked to have snatched victory.

However, Mark Yeates conjured up an equaliser in the fifth minute of injury time, meaning Burnley are still looking for an away win after six games.

At Turf Moor, however, it is a different story, with four wins and a draw - while Premier League Bolton have also been sent packing in the Carling Cup.

Laws is aware more pressure is being placed on home games by a lack of away wins, but isn’t too worried just yet: “I’m really confident in the players and really proud of the players. Our disappointment on Saturday I’m sure will be put to bed tonight.

“Our away performances have been excellent. The only thing that doesn’t go with it is the result. But it will come. We mustn’t get paranoid about it, if you start worrying and panicking about it or getting concerned about it, it does hinder you.

“It will come, and we’ll break that duck. We’ll get that win and we’ll probably go on and win a few more after that.

“They’re doing all the right things that we ask them to do. They’re being creative and scoring goals and they’re playing some really good football away from home.

“All along we know that to make a mark on the division you have to start winning away. But there’s no question it will come. I’m very confident about that.”

Turf Moor is certainly a fortress at Championship level, with nine wins and a draw from the last 10 home games - with the last away side to win at Burnley in this league being Laws’ Sheffield Wednesday in February last year.

And he added: “Pressure at home will come eventually because players know they have to respond at home if they don’t get the points away.

“If you keep picking up points at home and picking up the odd ones away then great, but we want to be better than that, because we are better than that.

“We just need to tighten up on the lapse we had. That’s the first time I’d say that’s happened, where we’ve had a good, strong lead and let it slip.”

On the bright side, the Clarets are unbeaten in six games, even if they slipped out of the top six on Saturday.

And Laws remains positive: “Six games without defeat is important.

“We’ve only lost two games in all of the games this season.

“There are a lot of positives to come out of it.

“We do get down – straight after the game I was angry, but you’ve also got to mellow and turn the disappointment into a positive.

“We’re really enjoying playing at Turf Moor, the supporters are, and teams are fearful of coming here.

“We know we’ve got something to play with and to play for.”

Another plus is the side are scoring goals - and from all areas of the side.

Dean Marney took the number of Burnley goalscorers to 11 in 13 games in all competitions, and Laws is encouraged by that statistic: “If you’re going to get out of the division everyone has to chip in.

“Everyone has to play their part.

“It’s not just about the defending or the defenders, the strikers will play their part.

“But you can’t rely on one or two people to do it for you.

“You have to share out the responsibility.

“It means we’ve got danger for the opposition.

“They’re not concentrating or focusing on just one player thinking if you shut him down no-one else is going to score.

“We can score from anywhere.

“The players are really confident in that at the moment and hopefully we can continue that.

“I’d be more than happy if we didn’t have a leading goalscorer, but several.”

While the goals are being shared out, the current front three have 14 between them as well, and Laws added: “We really are positive at the moment going forward.

“It is starting to click and bear fruit.

“We know we’ve got goals in us.

“It was just a total shock to our system on Saturday that we conceded three because it was sort of against our form.”
