Attempts to add Dundee United midfielder Stuart Armstrong, West Brom’s Graham Dorrans, Nottingham Forest’s Henri Lansbury and West Ham winger Matt Jarvis all fell by the wayside as the club looked to bolster the squad ahead of Monday’s 11 p.m. deadline.

While goalkeeper Alex Cisak was allowed to join League One side Leyton Orient on loan, defender Michael Keane proved the only capture after making his loan move from Manchester United permanent.

Chris Horner: “Extremely disappointing that we don’t seem to be backing our manager who has done a great job for us.”

-----

James Benson: “Farcical. Keeping Ings a plus, and Keane is a good long term buy, but we needed players for the here and now. Squad is too thin.

“Can understand financial limitations but if we don’t invest once promoted, what’s the point in getting to the PL to begin with?”

-----

Michael Watson: “quite simply a disgrace.”

-----

Martyn Biddulph: “baffled. We were assured Dyche had, and would spend funds in January. It’s like we’ve accepted relegation now.”

Matthew Draper: “It doesn’t mean relegation, far from it, but uninspiring to say the least. Any injuries and it could be game over.

“Also hard to believe there are only 2 midfielders better than Marney and Jones on our budget (or so we thought).”

-----

Howard Scott: “activity a strong word!!! Complete embarrassment for Sean and the team when they now must realise they are down.”

-----

MartinBFC88: “Still in disbelief, maybe we will all wake up in the morning from a bad nightmare.”

Joe Pattison: “the game on Sat clearly showed we needed a couple of players in to stay in division. We didn’t bring them in we are going down.

“We need answers tomorrow from the people involved. We’ve blown our chances and infact weakened the squad since the last window.”

-----

Stephen Richardson: “speechless”

-----

Rick Cunliffe “Disgusted”

-----

Andy Pickering: “crying out for midfield support, targets demonstrated that. Massive own goal from club”

-----

@tdholden12: “Very disappointing, thin squad already, does this ultimately show a lack of ambition from the board?

“We had a great chance of staying in the best league in the world, have the board not SD just thrown it all away?”

-----

David Ashley: “It’s like what a parent says to their kid at home.....I’m not angry I’m just disappointed”

-----

David Walmsley: “signing Dorrans/ Lansbury would of cost £8m (each) inc wages over 3 years. We kept Danny and signed Keane. Let’s be realistic!!!”

-----

Simon Chamberlain: “a bit OTT to say we are going down, but we now have to hope Marney and Jones stay fit or it could be curtains.”

Iain Montgomery: “Well we’ll splash the cash in the Championship....oh.”

-----

@Hosk_BFC: “I think it’s horrendous to be honest, we needed to strengthen going into the last 15 games.

“The players needed a lift aswell, to not bring anyone in is a joke. Tired of excuses.”

-----

Kevin Tootle: “Disgusted.”

-----

@luketootle: “9 months to sign a central midfielder. Failed miserably. The plan b for Lansbury was embarrassing.”

Greg Evans: “Massive lack of ambition from the club, a relatively small investment in the squad could have helped achieve....

“...further PL football for fans and huge financial returns for the club! Disappointing.”

-----

John McIvor: “Its clear the club and manager have different ambitions. The concern now is keeping the manager!”

-----

Duncan Spencer: “all the right sound bites will come out which are are frankly dull, but surely they should gone for 1 or 2.”

Stephen Eddy: “shameful. It has happened twice now. Entire recruitment department should go.”

-----

Callum Duxbury: “Quick enough to ask for cash off the fans but struggle spending it on the team. Needed a cm desperately, Lee Hoos wants sacking.”

-----

Craig Foulds: “We are operating like a league 1 outfit. Our board will say keeping Ings is a success when he was always staying.”

-----

Martyn Crowther: “just disappointment we’ve nailed our plan a to the mast we had a chance maybe to have a plan b.”

@mrjticker: “we’ve struggled more than the last 2 games those just highlighted the need for 2 quality midfielders #disastrous”

-----

@Andybee1965: “I’ve had enough putting money into a club with no ambition. Cancelling my Foundation and no more season tickets.

Natalie Bromley: “The Board asked the fans to pay a lot of money this year for tickets and have not invested in the team.

“And they’ll ask to pay extortionate amounts next year for Championship football! We’ve left our fate up to luck!”

-----

Supporters also expressed their views on the Burnley Express Facebook page:

Steven Brown: “Those directors need to be accountable for their lack of investment. But they won’t be. They have a arrogance that is totally shocking. Personally it doesn’t matter to me which league we play in. I’ve watched Burnley in the Prem, and also in the old fourth division. But when you have a group of individuals ‘milkin’ a club for every drop they can get. Certainly it’s going to leave a nasty taste in the mouth. If anybody out there is considering buying hospitality or corporate ticket for a game before the end of the season, don’t! Don’t feed a disease that has swept through the boardrooms of Turf Moor. The language is money, football never came into it for them.”

Jordan Rosewarne: “Sunderland, West brom, Leicester, villa, hull all strengthened there teams -no one’s doubting dyche but until the board back him he’s always going to be in a losing battle -the board need to realise that though players are often over priced sometimes you need to spend the money because other clubs will -may cost us by the end of the season.”

-----

Christina Grice: “Not surprised at all - Sean has been honest all along telling us that most players are out of our price range. I for one would rather have a team than one or two divas that could ruin us financially over a couple of seasons.”

-----

Peter Baker: “This decision beggars belief. We currently have a group of players giving absolutely 100% and a fantastic manager. With a few additional players added to our squad this could have been the different between survival and relegation. I honestly don’t understand how they can’t back SD. However, Brian Laws got cash which he completely wasted. The board are clearly happy milking the club for every penny and enjoying ex amounts of luxury holidays! Sack the board.”

-----

Phillip Monk: “What a fantastic board we have.. Good job we have good players with focus unlike our board. Hopefully we can stay up and just maybe invest in keeping 17-20k fans on the turf.... Still not sure where the money goes.”

-----

Stephen Herne: “Not much action anywhere in PL but I really thought that we would have signed some midfielders. I don’t know about you but I’m preparing for championship football next season.”
