The incident occurred in the 22nd-minute when Tarkowski was shown a yellow card for a full-blooded challenge on Watkins, the scorer of Villa's opener at Turf Moor.

However, it is the reaction of Villa's admin team which has caused the biggest talking point of the evening.

Another post read: "Red cards this season, Aston Villa 2 Burnley 0”.

For context, Villa fans believe it was in reference to Ben Mee’s challenge on Wesley Moraes in January 2020, which has left the Brazilian sidelined with knee ligament damage ever since.

Burnley, on the pitch, responded in the perfect fashion with a 3-2 victory.
