Ahead of the Football League’s unveiling of the fixture schedule for the new season on Wednesday, Sean Dyche’s side were drawn against the Minstermen with the tie to be played at Bootham Crescent on the week commencing August 5th.

While the Clarets were dumped out of the competition in the third round last term with a 3-1 loss to Swindon Town at the County Ground, York fell at the first hurdle when losing on penalties against Doncaster Rovers.

The sides last met on Boxing Day in 1998 when an Andy Payton brace and a Mark Robertson strike earned the Clarets a point in a 3-3 draw in Division Two under Stan Ternent.

The pair have met just once in the domestic cup competition with the Clarets progressing 3-2 on aggregate during the 1994/95 season. Warren Joyce had given the Clarets a 1-0 advantage after the first leg at Turf Moor while goals from Liam Robinson and John Gayle secured a 2-2 draw in the return fixture.

Most Claret fans will remember Bootham Crescent for the pulsating atmosphere on Tuesday, April 28th, 1992, as the Clarets sealed the Fourth Division title.
