‘Burnley deserved victory’ – QPR assistant Kevin Bond

Sean Dyche’s side inflicted the Rs’ first league defeat of the season, to stretch their lead at the head of the Championship to three points.

Danny Ings netted twice after the break to earn Burnley an eighth-successive win, and Bond said: “We’re always disappointed when we lose.

“Burnley played the game at a high tempo and tried to stop us playing.

“Full credit to them, they deserved their win.”

QPR’s best chance came with the game finely poised at 1-0, but centre back Richard Dunne blazed over after Clint Hill headed back a Joey Barton free kick: “After they scored we had a 15 minute period where we probably played our best football of the game and missed a good chance.

“In hindsight you probably want that chance to fall to an attacking player but it just popped up at Richard and he was unable to get a solid connection.

“If we’d have got level at that period it would have been crucial for us but we didn’t. Then we had to chase the game.”

QPR face their game in hand tomorrow night at Wigan as they look to close the gap on Burnley back to two points, and Bond added: “There’s always going to be setbacks throughout the season,” Bond added. “We’ve got some important games coming up and we need to respond against Wigan on Wednesday.

“We didn’t get carried away when we were winning games and went on the unbeaten run so we’re certainly not going to get carried away after one defeat.

“We know we can play a lot better than we did today. It’s up to us to respond now.”
