Burnley boss – We’re onto something at Turf Moor

Four points from six in the Championship, and progress to the second round of the Capital One have made for an encouraging first week of the season.

And with five different players on target in three games, Burnley are sharing the goals out after the sale of Charlie Austin.

Dyche continues to search for new blood, and he said: “We do need to keep looking to add to the squad because of the depth of it.

“But when the players go about their business like they did on Saturday, and they have done pre-season and in previous games, you think you’re on to something as a group.

“It’s (the search) ongoing.

“We have certain financial perameters that we have to work to. It’s not easy because we can’t go out and cherry-pick who we want so we have to align ourselves with the right people at the right time.

“It needs the opposite party to be involved in that and they have to say ‘yes’ as well.

“It’s an ongoing process with no guarantees but we are searching.”

The form of strikers Danny Ings - who has scored in all three games - and Sam Vokes, who netted his first of the season on Saturday, has eased the pressure.

In Vokes, Burnley have a player who has patiently waited for his opportunity, and Dyche said: “Real true match fitness and match know-how comes over time. Sam’s had periods of being in and out but I think he’s fit and hungry.

“I remember he played very well at Sheffield Wednesday last season so I spoke to him about that and then taking that into other grounds no matter where it is, because there’s no reason why he can’t be a real weapon for us. He certainly looked that on Saturday.

“He’s got a good physical presence and you need that mixture in the Championship. You need it at every level.

“Most teams need that mixture and we’re nearly there.”

Dyche, who was linked with Nottingham Forest’s Dexter Blackstock at the weekend, dismissed wild speculation of an interest in Owls striker Gary Madine: “The club gets linked with every forward who’s just about available.

“I haven’t spoken to Dave (Jones) about any player here.”
