The Premier League champions had won 24 games on the bounce at home, a sequence that stretched back to January 2019.

Jurgen Klopp's side had put three past Arsenal, three past Manchester City, five past Everton and four past the likes of Southampton and Crystal Palace on their way to winning all 17 games on their own turf this season.

Last season's Champions League winners were another step closer to creating more history when Andy Robertson's header broke the deadlock in their penultimate home game of the season.

But, against all the odds, the visitors fought back to collect a 26th point from a possible 39 in the top flight.

"I am super proud of the players, win or lose, they always give us everything," he said.

"When I first came to the club I only promised sweat on the shirt. I didn't promise anything other than you will have a team that gives everything and if there is ever an advert for a team that gives everything then it is this run of games and results.

"There was a lot of noise around us and myself at the start point and then questions and injuries and yet the focus has been clear from myself, my staff and the players and that has rewarded them with the points we have got on the board and some really good performances.

"And there are enjoyable days like today, they worked very hard to get something from the game today and they deserve everything they got."

Burnley grabbed an equaliser with just over 20 minutes to play when Jay Rodriguez, with his 11th goal of the campaign, beat Alisson with a half-volley from James Tarkowski's assist.

Most clubs would sit back and settle for a point at that moment, especially against the champions in their own back garden, but the away side continued to ask questions of their hosts.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson, introduced as a second half substitute on his return from injury, almost snatched all three points when his effort hit the crossbar late on.

Dyche said: "We came back into the game and nicked a goal and then there is that weird thing of do you try and see it through and we have intended on doing that.

"I know people say we sit deep and try to counter but it is not always the plan trust me. Sometimes it is that the opposition is really good.

"Today there was a clear attempt to go and win the game. We had a chance with Johann playing a ball into Vydra behind their back four and Johann hitting the bar.

"I thought set pieces were tremendous today and we looked like a real handful.

"We have used the talents of the players wisely I think to try and effect games and I think we affected enough to get a point.

"But it could have been out of sight so don't get me wrong I haven't lost sight of that.

"They are a top side and did what top sides do early on in the game but we dug in, saw that period through and second half was slightly more even and we created better chances."
