Burnley boss Sean Dyche on the draw with Everton and a controversial refereeing decision

But he was frustrated at seeing Robbie Brady's early opener cancelled out on half-time after what he felt is normally considered a foul in today's game.

Brady skidded in a right-footed effort from just outside the box inside three minutes, and Chris Wood was denied one on one by Jordan Pickford, as both the England number one and Nick Pope shone in front of Gareth Southgate.

However, Everton levelled in stoppage time in the first half as Allan dispossessed Ashley Westwood and Richarlison centred for Dominic Calvert-Lewin to steer home his 11th goal of the season.

Dyche felt Westwood was impeded enough for the move leading to the equaliser to be pulled back, and he said: "Overall I think it's a good point, I'm frustrated on a referee's decision that's gone against us.

"The performance level was what we have come to expect for a number of seasons here, the will, demand, drive and some of the quality as well.

"I thought we mixed the game well, asked questions.

"The final moment of truth...we got through their centre halves a few times, but that final touch or moment to release our centre forwards was probably the bug bear.

"But we created some good chances and looked a good unit, an effective unit."

And on the lack of a decision over what he perceived to be a foul on Westwood, he explained: "It's a key moment, Westy turns out of trouble, he's getting away from the player, and the player eases his arm in the back of his shoulder.

"Now, apparently, with certain players that is a foul, some players it's not.

"The point is, you're just looking for parity, and we don't get many of those.

"Our players I ask not to roll around on the floor, not to squeal, not to dive, but it's actually costing us, and it cost us today.

"We all know that is given with certain players virtually every single time.

"Whether it is or not is irrelevant in football today, if it is perceived a foul, it gets given, today it doesn't, and lo and behold, 10 seconds later it's in our net.

"I bizarrely saw a report this week that said simulation was getting less - I don't know what game they are watching.

"I've been in this league a while, 200 games today, and the idea being I think I'm rounded enough to give a fair reflection of what I'm seeing/

"We needed that decision, it goes against us."

After keeping three clean sheets in five games, picking up two draws and a first win of the season, Burnley were brought back down to earth at Manchester City last week.

The performances as a whole, however, have encouraged Dyche: "We never relented other than when they had a good period, which they are probably going to have because they are a very good side I feel, and have some very good individuals.

"But we defended resolutely, Popey came into action and made a couple of good saves, Pickford as well, so keepers on top.

"I ask a lot of these players and they deliver often.

"We don't go away from that too many times. This season has been tougher for different reasons, injuries, but now the squad is getting fitter, as in getting that true Premier League fitness, the ones coming back from injury are getting fitter and stronger, so the group is looking more solid.

"I'm not naive, we still have to turn these performances into wins, but you have to have a future in your performances, you can't luck out in the Premier League, so we have had a number of performances in the last four or five games, and we have a future in those performances."
