Burnley boss Sean Dyche laughs off 'factually incorrect' contract reports

Sean Dyche has insisted reports in the Daily Mail that he has a '5% development clause' on adademy products sold are "factually incorrect."

The story on Thursday morning suggested that Dyche 'stands to make millions of pounds' if any players coming through the academy, such as Dwight McNeil were to be sold while he is at the club.

There is nothing illegal about such a clause in his contact, was it there, and Dyche would have scarcely benefited in any case, with Cameron Dummigan thought to be the last academy player to attract a fee, and that a nominal one when he joined Oldham Athletic in 2016.

And as Dyche suggests, if he could have profited from the sale of McNeil, why did he have a big role to play in his signing an extended contract last month?

Dyche laughed: "It's factually incorrect, but never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

"I've tried to be private with my own situation and my players', any players we attempt to sign.

"I've spoken about length of contracts, but never about the detail.

"And if truth be known, even if it was true, I don't think I'd have earned fortunes out of it.

"They were linking it to one player, Dwight McNeil, and having a large part in having him sign a long term contract here, it suggests I must be going mad...certainly my wife would be asking why didn't you sell him as quick as you could, if that was factually true, because she is partial to a handbag!"
