Despite a lengthening injury list, losing Charlie Taylor and Jay Rodriguez during the game, Burnley recovered from Raul Jimenez's stunning volley 14 minutes from time to claim a draw with a dramatic Chris Wood penalty after a handball from Matt Doherty.

Wood could have equalised moments earlier, heading wide after keeper Rui Patricio misjudged an Ashley Westwood centre, heading wide of an open goal, but he showed great character to hammer home from the spot.

And Dyche said: "It was a good finish to another strange game in that we lost Charlie Taylor early and lost Jay Rod

"Jay has a better chance of being okay, we had to be cautious with him.

"To come out at the end with a point against a really good side with the challenges we are having is really pleasing.

"It was a great mentality for Woody, I thought he grew into the game

"He is getting back into playing and we got 90 minutes out of him which is pleasing and I thought second half he got stronger and stronger.

"When he missed the chance it just goes to show you what a strong character he is to then step up and take the penalty and finish it in fine style."

Wolves were furious at the award, feeling Doherty had his arm up to protect him from Wood's overhead kick attempt, but Dyche noted: "From a distance I thought something might have gone off with the header across from Bardo and I thought there might have been a foul there.

"When they said penalty the players were adamant.

"It looks like a clear case of handball the way the rules are now because he is not making any attempt to play the ball, he has just put his arm in the way so therefore it is a penalty."

And he felt Burnley could have had another spot kick earlier on for a tug on Josh Brownhill from Romain Saiss: "I don't enjoy those moments, we've seen penalties given - I'm not going to name names, you know who they are, they get touched on the shoulder and their legs collapse. We don't do that and seem to get nothing.

"There were a number of incidents tonight where I just can't work them out.

"If you don't roll around the floor squealing, you get nothing, and if you do, it's not for me, so we're kind of stuck in an awkward predicament.

"I haven't seen the moment in slow motion, but he definitely gets dragged across his shoulder and it's enough to affect his running gait, he tries to stay in his feet and do the right thing, and gets nothing.

"You know I'm baffled by it, but no one seems to bother about it other than me."

As it is, Burnley have now lost only once in 14 Premier League games and are seven unbeaten at home, back to New Year's Day: "I referenced the mentality before the game and the respect within it.

"I have been talking about it for weeks now because there is that feeling of never knowing when we are beaten and I like that in a group.

"I talk them to all the time about playing to the last breath of a game because things can change quickly and we did that and got another good point.

"The Premier League is unforgiving so to put that run of games together (one defeat in 14) and the points we have put on the table as well is pleasing and it came out of a tough run when it started.

"I can't speak highly enough of the group and they continue to give it all to the cause.

"Players come in and deliver and they just keep going.

"We talk about relentlessness and there is that at the moment."

As regards the injuries to Taylor and Rodriguez, Dyche explained: "It is his (Taylor's) hamstring. I will find out more in the next day or two

"It is a blow for us, we are already skinny on numbers.

"Jay Rod I am bit more hopeful with because that was me being cautious. He said he had a tight calf at half time and we can't afford to keep losing players so we had to get him off.

"Hopefully that one will be okay.

"But this group, the challenges keep coming but they just keep getting on with it so I couldn't be more pleased for the players and what they are putting in and the rewards they are getting."
