Burnley boss Sean Dyche applauds another 'strong season' for midfielder Ashley Westwood

Burnley's Ashley Westwood could be heading for back-to-back Player of the Year accolades if the midfielder picks up from where he left off in the Premier League.

The former Aston Villa man continues to go from strength-to-strength on the pitch and his performances haven't gone unnoticed.

Clarets chief Sean Dyche commended the 30-year-old's aptitude after the squad regrouped at the Barnfield Training Centre following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dyche claimed that the tea-loving middle man, who recently confessed to developing a horticultural hobby during lockdown, is continuing to mature as a player.

"Westy has done really well," he said. "He's had another strong season following on from the last one.

"I think he's matured as a player. They get to an age where they are still very capable, which he certainly is, but I think he's maturing.

"He's well rounded as a player and he's continuing to add that inner belief that players need to deliver performances. I think he's doing that very well."

Westwood, who has had a hand in just over 20% of Burnley's goals in the league this term, triggered a 12-month extension in his contract earlier in the year.

But Dyche insinuated that the club would be looking into Westwood's situation, among others, once the dust has finally settled.

"We've got situations that we've been monitoring, which we obviously always do, and trying to keep in touch with the right people and advisors," said the Burnley boss.

"We're looking to activate a number of situations, but you need the chairman and the board to be ready for what comes.

"It's hard at the minute because nothing is guaranteed. Once the season is finished you start to know where you stand financially as a club. We're in good shape, but we want to look out for the next five or 10 years and not just year one."
