The German boss has agreed an 18-month contract to take over as Gareth Southgate’s permanent successor and will begin work at the start of 2025.

Tuchel is also someone Parker got to know well during his time out of the game following his sacking at Club Brugge.

As a former England captain who represented his country 18 times, Parker has no qualms with the FA’s decision.

“I’ve been in contact with Thomas and I’ve been around him a little bit. He’s an incredible coach, first and foremost,” Parker said.

“Seeing him coach first hand and seeing how he works, the relationships he builds with his players, I have absolutely no doubt Thomas will do an incredible job with a very, very talented group as well.

“He’s the right man for the job, that’s how the FA see it and I don’t see it any differently.”

Some members of the media have questioned the FA’s decision to appoint a foreign manager, rather than an Englishman, for only the third time in their history - after Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.

But having played under Capello during his playing career, Parker doesn’t see a problem.

“That was never really an issue,” the Burnley boss added.

“It’s like anything, at this moment in time people in those places are looking at who is the best man for the job, who is the man who can take England to that next level and I’d say Thomas’ CV speaks for itself.

“I have no doubt he will do a good job.”
