Burnley boss proud of home form

The Clarets have embarked on an 18-game unbeaten league run on home soil - 14 of those this term - equalling landmarks previously achieved in both 1956/57 and in 1973.

Avoiding defeat against Dyche’s former club Millwall tomorrow would see the class of 2013/14 become record-breakers, bettering the feats of Alan Brown’s side and Jimmy Adamson’s ‘Team of the Seventies’ in those respective campaigns.

In 1957, in the old First Division, it took Manchester United, pre-Munich, to end that sequence as Burnley finished seventh. And in 1973, that run helped win promotion to the top flight. The Clarets are also one of two clubs, including Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea, to boast an unbeaten home record this term.

“I think there’s been a few markers laid down this season,” said Dyche. “We equalled the best start ever which I’m pretty proud of. I do like historical markers, especially when you think of the rich history that this club has.

“To make markers in the history of this club is fantastic. It’s not the be all and end all; we’re not thinking that’s something we have to do to be a part of history, but it’s a lovely add on to what we’re achieving at the club this season.”

Dyche added: “Everyone wants to make their home a fortress. We’re just one of the teams that has managed to do it. We spoke about it at the beginning of the season as a group, and that’s helped us move forward this season. It’s fantastic what they’ve achieved with their performance levels on a consistent basis.

“The mixture of quality and endeavour has been really powerful this season, not only in getting results but in the visual as well. The players have been excellent and they’ve made it clear that our ethos is to win games.

“We’re not going in to the game thinking about the record, we’re just preparing for our next game - against Millwall - which is what we’ve done all season. That’s our main focus.”
