Sam Vokes netted his 13th of the season just before the break, but Wednesday levelled moments later through Chris Maguire.

Burnley dominated over the piece, however, with Danny Ings denied by the post and a stunning save from Chris Kirkland, and Dyche said: “It was one of those strange ones where we have been totally dominant from start to finish in virtually every level of the game.

“I thought we played some really good mixed football. It’s the most effective way of putting the opposition on the back foot and we have to find that mix of playing long and then getting the fullbacks on and stretching teams.

“Other than the physical scoreline, I’m delighted with the performance.

“I thought that both sides could have had a penalty but they’re tough calls from referees.

“Danny had a number of chances - he’s kept one low and hit the post and then he’s hit one at the keeper’s hands and then had another saved. Jonah’s (David Jones) had one off the line and Dean Marney’s had one just past the post.”
