But he insists his players will not become complacent after a first win over Rovers in 35 years took Burnley eight points clear in the automatic promotion places.

Dyche takes his side to Birmingham City tomorrow night looking to build on a 12-game unbeaten run, and six away games without defeat, buoyed by the high of victory at Ewood Park.

And he said: “I’ve experienced things over time, promotions and things like that, but as an individual moment it has to be up there, particularly as a manager.

“For me and the group, it’s a magic moment, particularly for the fans.

“The three points are important for many different reasons, the main one being the derby, but we go again at Birmingham, it comes around quickly.”

The players won’t have long to dwell on a famous win, and Dyche has already brought them down to earth in readiness for a tricky trip to St Andrew’s: “I’ve already reminded the players, the responsibility they have as professionals.

“There’s a real professional feel about the group, we’ve built that over the time that we’ve been here, they know their responsibilities as individuals, I’m sure of that.

“But they must enjoy this occasion, it’s an historic moment, and that’s of value to everyone at Burnley Football Club, especially the players.

“This result can’t not given you a boost, and another win, in among a group of wins, and another good display.”

With 12 games remaining, Burnley are now 1/4 favourites with the bookmakers to be promoted, but nothing changes for Dyche and his mantra of taking games one at a time: “I made it clear this group will go hard to the end of the season, we train them accordingly, make sure they find the balance between rest and fitness and it was there for all to see again.

“This group have made a lot of statements this year, but we have to keep working, no complacency, continue to keep working hard, play well, get all the things right behind the scenes.”
