Burnley, in 17th place, are three points clear of Huddersfield in 22nd.

But while the fans have sounded off on message boards and social media, they have continued to back the team at games.

Dyche said after Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat at Leeds: “I thought the fans were excellent.

“They’ve certainly had a go for us, and they’ll need to have a go as the season comes on because we want to bring that positivity.

“It’s important, the players need it, we want to get them points on the board.

“We deserve them but we have to earn them. Simple as that.”

And he looked back at the loss at Elland Road: “I was disappointed, they were the better side, apart from a little rally at the end.

“They showed their experience, and it was an interesting one.

“That same group of players weren’t playing like that two weeks ago because I saw them.

“We caught them on a night when they were on the front foot and alive, and we weren’t quite at it, simple as that.”
