Burnley agree compensation with Bristol Rovers over young defender Ali Koiki
Former Burnley youngster Ali Koiki has joined Bristol Rovers after a compensation deal was agreed.
The 21-year-old turned down a new contract offer from the Clarets during the summer, but as he is under 24, any new club would be due to pay compensation for Koiki’s development.
And Rovers have agreed a fee, for a player who has also interested Charlton Athletic and Sunderland.
Koiki joined Burnley before the start of the 2016/17 season and signed a first professional contract 12 months later.
A regular in the U23 side at Turf Moor, Koiki - who also made it as far as the bench at first-team level with the Clarets - joined Swindon Town on loan in January, 2019 and stayed at the County Ground for the remainder of the season, making 15 appearances for the League Two side.
He now gets the chance to try and advance his career with Rovers with the Clarets seeing another young player benefit from their youth set-up to secure a contract in the professional game.
