Burnley add midfield ace to youth ranks

BURNLEY have added to their youth ranks with the capture of highly rated Irish midfielder Luke Gallagher.

The 17-year-old has joined the Clarets from Dublin club Cherry Orchard on a two-year scholarship deal.

“He is a mature young boy with a steely determination to succeed,” said Burnley Director of Youth Martin Dobson.

“He has an excellent attitude and he is a good passer of the ball.

“He wants to have a crack at being a professional footballer and we are looking forward to him developing with us.”

Gallagher, who has captained the Republic of Ireland Under 17s, will be eligible for the Clarets’ youth team once he has received international clearance.

Former Cherry Orchard players to make the grade in the Football League include one-time Burnley striker Alan Lee.
