Brierfield Celtic celebrate 40th anniversary

Over 175 players, coaches and parents attended the game at Turf Moor, and eight players from Celtic’s Under 7s team acted as mascots to walk out with the players, while the Under 9s and 10s provided the guard of honour as the players walked out onto the pitch.

The club’s two Under 8s teams provided half-time entertainment, playing each other in a seven-a-side game.

Some 70 other players, coaches and parents were paraded round the pitch, while Celtic’s logo and team photos were displayed on the screen in the corner of the ground, along with a welcome notice and announcement about the club’s anniversary over the tannoy.

Secretary Dave Johnson said: “Although this was a mammoth task to get so many people there and sort out who was doing what, it was a fantastic day in the end, culminating in a great win for the Clarets!

“Thanks to everyone who got involved and joined in the fun, and a great big thanks to John Mathers at Burnley for including our club in what was a great day for all of us.

• LOWERHOUSE Juniors Under 10s took on title challengers Blackburn United Green in the East Lancashire Football Alliance Blue League.

It was an outstanding performance against the odds to gain a point in a 0-0 draw.

The side are showing great improvement in what has been a tough first season.

Man of the match was awarded to Benjamin McGowan for an outstanding all-round performance.

• TWO goals from Man of the Match Ezio De Santis and another from Alfie Percival were enough for Pendle Forest Under 10s in a 3-1 win against Bacup in the Warburtons League. Cain MacDonald was immense in defence and Joe Webb deputised in goal second half, enabling his mate Harrison Howarth an opportunity to keep warm in the sub zero temperature.
