Scott Parker leaves Burnley by mutual consent after Premier League relegation
Scott Parker has left Burnley by mutual consent following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.
The 45-year-old departs Turf Moor with immediate effect, with first-team coach Mike Jackson due to take charge of Burnley’s final four games of the season – starting at Leeds United tomorrow night.
It’s the second time Mike Jackson will have taken over the Clarets on a caretaker basis, having performed a similar role following Sean Dyche’s sacking in 2022.
He oversaw an initial improvement in form, but was unable to halt Burnley’s slide back in the Championship.
That’s where the Clarets will also find themselves next season following this season’s disappointing campaign in the top flight, where they’ve won just four of their 34 games.
While relegation has been inevitable for some time now, Burnley’s fate was officially sealed last week following their 1-0 defeat to Manchester City.
Parker and the board held discussions this week and it was mutually agreed that his time at Turf Moor would conclude, despite still having a year left on his contract.
Jonathan Hill, Parker’s long-time assistant, remains in post.

Parker leaves Turf Moor having taken charge of 88 games in total, winning 35, drawing 25 and losing 28, giving him a win ratio of 39.77 per cent.
Arriving off the back of Vincent Kompany’s surprise departure to Bayern Munich, the former Fulham and Bournemouth boss guided the club back to the Premier League at the first attempt.
The Clarets amassed an incredible 100 points, finishing second to Leeds United on goal difference, having been beaten just twice all season, conceding just 16 goals and keeping a record-equalling 30 clean sheets.
This was all done after Parker had to overhaul the vast majority of his squad during the summer following a chaotic transfer window, which saw 18 players arrive and 21 depart.
But Parker was unable to keep Burnley in the Premier League during what has been a difficult campaign, where they currently sit on just 20 points with four games still remaining.
The Clarets endured a seven-game losing streak before Christmas before going 16 games without a win. They’ve currently won just one of their last 25 league outings.
Parker has been the target of Burnley’s fans’ ire for much of the campaign, leading to friction and growing toxicity between the two, making a mutual parting of the ways inevitable.
He recently spoke of the toll this season has taken on him personally, admitting it’s been the toughest season of his career to date.
Steven Gerrard is currently the bookies’ favourite to get the Burnley job, following reports the Liverpool boss would be under consideration should the club opt to part ways with Parker.
But the Burnley Express understands no talks have currently been held.
