George Boyd admits Burnley won't settle for anything less than winning the Championship title in the last two games.

The Clarets sit top of the table on goal difference, level on points with Middlesbrough and Brighton, though their rivals face each other on the final day of the season at the Riverside.

Burnley could be promoted as early as Monday, providing both Boro, on Friday night at Birmingham, and Brighton, at home to Derby on Monday lunchtime, drop points.

Boyd, outstanding in the 1-0 win at Preston on Friday, only has eyes for the Championship trophy, however, which was on display at Deepdale with the Sky Sports broadcast team.

Burnley last won the trophy in 1960, when it was for the champions of England, before the advent of the Premier League, and Boyd said: “Nobody wants to come second, we want the title.

“If you come second you get the smaller trophy, but everyone wants to win titles.

“To win it to get in the Premier League would be brilliant.”

After relegation from the top flight 12 months ago, this prospect looked a long way away, but Boyd insisted: “We had the belief that we would win the title when we came back down. We had meetings to say that, and we’re right on course now.”

The wideman won promotion with Hull City in 2013, but admits this achievement would surpass that, should Burnley get over the line: “Definitely. Getting into the Premier League has to be the best promotion. I wasn’t there at Hull the whole season, so to be here from start to finish and see it through would be amazing.”
